GLP-1 Agonists

The most effective weight loss medications available are called GLP-1 receptor agonists, which are a manufactured version of GLP-1, a naturally occurring hormone in our bodies. Taking this medication once a week has some fantastic positive, clinically-proven effects. GLP-1 agonists help to regulate your appetite and reduce calorie intake, leading to weight loss, helping with weight management and lowering the risk of heart attacks, strokes and cardiovascular death.

To learn more about the science behind these medications, read our blog posts which are written and regularly updated by our specialist medical doctors.

Your Questions Answered

  • Weight loss medications are designed to help people who are overweight or obese to achieve a healthier weight. Although these medications are safe and effective, there are some people who will not be able to use them, for example those with Type 1 diabetes, cancer of the pancreas or kidney failure. Our clinicians will assess your suitability for the programme on an individual, case-by-case basis. Complete the eligibility form to get started.

  • The most common side effects of GLP-1 medications are gastrointestinal including nausea, diarrhoea, stomach pain, and constipation. These side effects usually subside as your body adjusts to the medication. For a full list of side effects, including the less common ones, always read the Patient Information Leaflet. Our clinicians are available throughout your treatment plan to discuss how to best manage any troublesome side effects if necessary.

  • Results vary depending on each individual but it is important to note that healthy weight loss is a gradual process. However, from helping hundreds of people achieve their weight loss goals, we find that most of our patients lose up to 10% of their total body weight in the first 3 months.

  • As a healthcare provider, we hold ourselves to the highest standards of quality and safety. All of our medications have been thoroughly researched and are evidence-based. GLP-1 agonists have been approved for the long-term treatment of obesity. These trials also demonstrated that the medication reduced the risk of adverse cardiovascular events, including a heart attack or stroke. Our clinicians will work with you to define the optimum time for you to stay on the prescribed medication based on your individual circumstances.

  • Weight loss tablets work by blocking the absorption of some of the fat in your diet. As a result, your body absorbs fewer calories from the fat you eat, which can help you lose weight over time.

Injectable GLP-1 treatments, like Wegovy® and Mounjaro®, are more effective as they help control your appetite. They mimic a natural hormone in your body called GLP-1, which signals to your brain that you’re full and should stop eating. By increasing this signal, GLP-1s can regulate your blood sugar and keep you feeling fuller for longer.

  • Mounjaro® and Wegovy® are injectable pens you use once a week.

They’re easy to use and give you the right dose without needing measurements or syringes. You can inject them into your arm, leg, or abdomen. The pens have a small, fine needle for a nearly painless injection just under the skin surface. They come with clear instructions and links to video demonstrations.

  • Keep the medications in your fridge as soon its delivered. This helps keep the medication effective and in-date.

  • For injectable weight loss medications like Wegovy and Mounjaro, each pen contains 4 doses. You take 1 dose a week, so 1 pen lasts 4 weeks (28 days). Take the medication on the same day each week.

  • You may increase your dose after 4 weeks on your current dose.

Our doctors will provide you with a dosing schedule when placing your order, which is sent via email. It is important to keep to your dosing schedule as not doing so can cause more severe side effects.

  • If you forget to take your semaglutide injection:

If it's been 4 days or less: Take the injection as soon as you remember. Then, take your next dose on your regular schedule.

If it's been more than 4 days: Skip the missed dose. Just wait and take your next dose on your regular day.

This way, you stay on track with your treatment plan.

  • There is a national and international shortage of semaglutide injections and supply availability regularly changes with demand. You may receive Ozempic instead of Wegovy if there are issues with the available supply for that dose. The active medication, semaglutide, is identical in both products which are produced by NovoNordisk in Denmark. It is common for the names of medication change due to licensing arrangements.

  • To switch from Wegovy to Mounjaro:

    1. Request Mounjaro at the starting dose. This will let our doctors know you want to change medication

    2. Our doctors will review your questionnaire and advise you on what to do next

Please note: You must stop taking Wegovy for at least 5 weeks before you can start Mounjaro.
